It was a giant feat for Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan at the World Championships as she becomes the first Nigerian to ever win gold in the women’s 100m hurdles.
In the competition held in Eugene, Oregon, in the early hours of Monday, July 25, Amusan also broke the world record in the semi-finals of the women’s 100m hurdles.
She initially caught the attention of people after running an unbelievable12.40 seconds in the first round of the game on Saturday ( Sunday morning in Nigeria).
Tobi Amusan also took it a step further by running an unimaginable12.12 seconds in the semifinals, therefore emerging the winner of that round.
She was also the only Nigerian female 100m hurdles runner to make the penultimate round of the competition.
Amusan also smashed her own record again in the finale by running12.06 seconds but it was later ruled ineligible as the wind speed exceeded the legal limit.

Nigeria had also won her first gold medal at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, thanks to powerlifter, Latifat Tijani.
Latifat came top place in the women’s 45 kg powerlifting on Thursday, August 26, after defeating China’s Zhe Cui to lift 107 kg.
She was a gold medalist at the Brazzaville 2015 Africa Games and silver medalist at the Rio 2016 Paralympics.
